What is Bullying behaviour?

Bullying is any deliberate action  carried out by individuals or groups with the intention of, or which has the effect of, causing distress to the victim. Bullying behaviour is generally  persistent, systematic and ongoing giving the bully a sense of power, control or status. It leaves the victim feeling upset, threatened, humiliated and vulnerable. It undermines the victim’s self confidence and causes considerable stress.

The following are examples of bullying behaviour.  The examples below and any other forms of bullying, are totally unacceptable in Holy Child Community School:

  • Using any form of physical violence to another student  - hitting, pushing, assault
  • Stealing, damaging or 'messing' with another student's property
  • Threatening a student in any way
  • Stealing or demanding money
  • Jeering and laughing at another student
  • Racist remarks
  • 'Slagging' students or their families
  • Excluding or isolating another student (or group of students)
  • Spreading rumours or lies about another student
  • Passing notes about another student
  • Any unkind behaviour towards others, particularly new students.
  • Hurtful mobile phone text messages
  • Using the computer to spread hurtful rumours or ‘gossip’ about other students.
